つい先日三菱UFJ銀行から、アメリカの銀行子会社の売却のニュースが出ました。
残念ながらUnion Bankを三菱UFJが米銀５位のＵＳバンコープへ売却することが発表されました。譲渡対象は法人、投資銀行部門ではなくリテール業務となります。つまり、一般の方向けサービスに何らかの影響が今後出てくると思われます。
ユニオンバンクといえば、アメリカ駐在員のかなり多くの方が銀行口座を保有しているのではないでしょうか。三菱UFJを通じて渡米前から銀行口座開設の準備ができるため、日本人駐在員にとっては非常に重宝されている銀行でした。
銀行口座、デビットカード、クレジットカードも発行しており特に駐在初期の頃は非常に心強い存在です。日本への帰国後も口座を維持できるため、過去の駐在員も継続して口座保有している方が多いのではないでしょうか。
現状既存のサービスが今後どうなっていくかに関する発表はなされていません。当局の売却承認を得られた後、2022年1月から6月の間に売却手続きを完了する予定です。売却手続き完了までに何らかサービスの変更や新しいサービスについて既存のユーザーへアナウンスがされることになると思いますので、また続報があれば記載しようと思います。
